Talented karter set for move to USF Pro Championships in 2024

ORLANDO, FL – Earlier this month, top kart racing operation Zanella Racing announced its expansion into the USF Pro Championships with the purchase of a pair of Tatuus JR-23 USF Juniors race cars. This week, the team is thrilled to confirm the signing of its first driver – Leonardo Escorpioni. The 13-year-old from Windemere, Florida has become one of the top junior kart racers in North America and is primed and ready to make his single-seater debut in 2024. Escorpioni has led the team in pre-testing as their new cars have been delivered, prepped and are already on-track.

“We have been working with Leo for over two years now,” commented Jose ‘Naka’ Zanella, team owner. “We’ve helped him reach the highest step of the podium in many national kart races and I have no doubt that he will have a brilliant future in the USF Pro Championships. Leo is always eager to learn and wants to be at the front. I am really excited to see what this kid can do!”

Escorpioni has been racing with Zanella since 2021 and currently participates in Superkarts! USA, ROK Cup USA and United States Pro Kart Series competition in addition to racing locally at the Orlando Kart Center. Last fall, Leonardo finished second in KA100 Junior at the SKUSA SuperNationals, which is considered the top karting event in North America. Earlier this year, he finished in the top-five overall in both ROK Junior and VLR Junior classes in the ROK Cup Florida Winter Tour and was third overall in the SKUSA Winter Series in KA100 Junior.

“I’m really excited to join USF Juniors as it is a next logical step up from karts. but I’m ready for the challenge to get to the front,’ Escorpioni added. “Naka helped me learn more about the kart, the setup, and he’s helped me take the sport seriously,” Escorpioni offered. “He’s helped fuel my passion for the sport, increasing it with every race I run. My goals are to one day get to INDYCAR and win the Indy 500.”

The team has already begun its off-season testing program and will also announce its second driver shortly. Significant interest in the program has motivated Zanella to purchase a third USF Juniors, expanding the team to run a trio of talented drivers in the 2024 championship.
