OTTAWA, Que., Canada – Olivier Mrak, with support from Mark Motors Racing, competed at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, taking on Rounds 10 and 11 of the USF Juniors Presented by Continental Tire championship. Mrak showed strong pace throughout the weekend, qualifying in the fourth position, but a pair of tough races left him with results of 17th and 18th on the historic Ohio road course.
Mrak’s qualifying effort put him on the outside of row two for race one, a strong sign for the Zanella Racing entry heading into the weekend’s two races. Race one proved difficult to translate that speed into results, and race two ended prematurely after Mrak was collected in an on-track incident.
“Qualifying P4 here at Mid-Ohio was a great feeling — the car had real pace, and we were right there with the leaders,” said Mrak. “That speed is what we’re going to build on. We know it’s in the car and in the team, and we’re going to keep chasing it every weekend. There is no time to get down on the weekend as we are back at it again this coming weekend and can’t wait.”
With Mid-Ohio in the rearview mirror, Mrak now turns his attention to Lime Rock Park for the second-to-last event weekend of the season, with Rounds 12 and 13 of the 16-race USF Juniors programs set to take the green flag.
Despite the tough results at Mid-Ohio, Mrak leaves Ohio tied for third in the championship points standings, keeping him firmly in the title battle heading into the final stretch of the season.
